LF Board Resource Page

To assist board members in maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of the organization, LF has developed a library of resources available for download. These materials have been organized to do two things: assist you in articulating the case for support and engage people/groups in the work of LF. For customized materials contact Debbi Commodore at dcommodore@leadershipfoundations.org.

Problem

The nations are migrating to cities. In the year 2050, 75% of the world’s people will be living in cities. The city is the dominant social reality of the 21st century. One billion people currently live in overcrowded urban slums, without basic services, clean water, or sanitation. Poverty in all its forms is the greatest single threat to peace, security, democracy, human rights and the environment.” (Michael Moore, former Director-General, World Trade Organization

Poverty left unaddressed will produce four urban realities that, if left unchecked, will create an ever-increasing future of despair, disintegration, and destruction: 1) Geography without community; 2) Places that are activity rich and systems poor; 3) Growing disparity between rich and poor and; 4) The tribalism of us versus them.

LF Vision and Values

Cities across the world will be transformed into places of shalom, fulfilling Zechariah’s vision where “men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets…each with cane in hand,” and where “city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.” (Zechariah 8:4-5) Cities becoming playgrounds rather than battlegrounds.

Our core values are building community and trust, living and laughing in transparent and vulnerable ways, leadership that serves, relationships that bridge, including the whole Church, and the third way of uniting opposing sides and mobilizing them around a common vision, mission, and set of values. This is how leaders in our global network are working with those on the margins every day.

LF Mission

Leadership Foundations makes cities better by increasing the mastery of leaders who drive the wheel of permanent change made up of three strategic functions—engaging leaders of good faith and good will, building the capacity of others, and developing joint initiatives.

Executive Summary

Leadership Foundations (LF) is a faith-based global network of 38 Local Leadership Foundations (LLFs) that works to transform cities by increasing the mastery of leaders who drive the wheel of permanent change—engaging leaders of good faith and good will, building the capacity of others, and developing joint initiatives– in their cities. The LF Global Office develops this mastery by providing key services (training, technical assistance, accreditations, individualized coaching, partnerships, funding opportunities, and program models, etc.). In 2018, through the LF Global Office’s $3.1 million budget that leverages another $41.3 million throughout the network, we impacted 354,562 individuals directly with thousands more impacted indirectly; were home for 1,247 staff and 16,454 volunteers, had 1,303 partners and oversaw 193 joint initiatives and programs ranging from housing to healthcare to mentoring to foster care to prison ministry.
